This presentation will focus on various issues. Several teacher training programs in the European Community (EC) will be discussed. In particular, the academic courses, additional studies, related events, practice teaching and excursions will be compared. It will be examined whether they have common models and goals. In addition the positive and negative consequences of the various research efforts on these issues will be discussed by using some examples. Finally, we try to give a response to the folllowing question: Can the EU propose and support a common teacher traing program for the member states and the candidate states (i.e. for the teaching methods of the EU and the EU teacher)?
