Chair of the section/Suggestions, Abstracts, Contributions to:

ABSTRACT: The aim of this section is to examine the validity of the myth that every additionally acquired language opens access to a new culture and thus enriches the construction of a person's identity without consideration of socially determined parameters. In particular we will inquire into the difference between two types of bilingual speakers, which always have to be seen in connection with the prestige, which the concerned languages hold in society. This section will investigate young Russian émigrés as well as the situation of the two Slavic groups in Carinthia and Burgenland.
