Cultural Elements in the Translation of Naguib Mahfooz's The Beginning and the End and The Palace of DesireThe study embarks upon examining the way cultural elements are translated in two of Naguib Mahfouz's novels The Beginning and the End and The Palace of Desire. The paper intends to point out that the translator of Mahfouz's novels The Beginning and the End and The Palace of Desire fails to fully utilize the strategies (e.g. paraphrasing, transliteration, annotation etc.) that are available for coping with cultural elements that permeate these novels. These cultural elements fall into different categories: religion, politics, etc.
