Bardakjian, Kevork B – TRANS

Bardakjian, Kevork B. is the Marie Manoogian Professor of Armenian Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He received his first degrees in Armenian studies (B.A. and M.A.) from Yerevan State University, Armenia and his D.Phil in Armenian and Oriental studies from Oxford University. He taught and was Armenian Bibliographer at Harvard University, 1974–1987 and has held the Marie Manoogian Chair in Armenian Language and Literature at the University of Michigan since its inception in 1987. Dr. Bardakjian is the founding director of the Michigan Summer Armenian Institute held annually in Yerevan, Armenia and was Director of the Armenian Studies Program at Michigan, 1995–2007. He has been active in the Society for Armenian Studies (SAS) and its president for two terms in 1982–1984, and the Association Internationale des Etudes Arméniennes. He has received a number of awards recognizing his contributions to the field and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Yerevan State University, Armenia. Dr. Bardakjian has lectured and published extensively on Armenian literature, history and culture.

His latest publication is: A Reference Guide to Modern Armenian Literature, 1500–1920, with an introductory history, Detroit: Wayne State University Press, 2000.
