Connor, Maureen: artist whose videos and installations have addressed issues of identity and gender and their modes of representations in everyday objects and situations. In 2000 established “Occupation” as an association aimed at examining the social dynamics of the workplace. “Occupation” has produced several projects, largest is “Personnel:” An Exploration of the Art Institution as a Workplace, an ongoing series of site-specific works in which the attitudes, needs, and desires of the staff at the host institution become the subject of an installation. “Personnel” has been produced for Whyspa Art Institute, Gdansk, Poland, 2004-5, Tapies Foundation, Barcelona, Spain, 2003, Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, 2002, and the Queens Museum of Art, Corona Park, New York, 2001. Another project “Casual Friday” commissioned for the exhibition Rapture, Barbican Art Gallery, London, 2002, explored the transformation of self-image brought about by the adoption of casual dress in the workplace. Numerous solo exhibitions at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the ICA, Philadelphia, the Kunstraum, Munich, and MOMA Video Viewpoints Series. Group exhibitions include venues such as the ZKM Karlsruhe, Cooper Hewitt Museum, Mass MOCA, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna, Armand Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, Portikus, Frankfurt, and the Whitney Biennial. Received Guggenheim, NEA and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships and a NYSCA Media Project Fellowship. Has been Professor of Sculpture and installation at Queens College of the City University of New York since 1990.
