Mattson, Michelle

Mattson, Michelle (Ph.D. Stanford University, 1991) is an associate professor of German and chair of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College in Memphis. Her research has covered such diverse topics as contemporary German drama, political representation in German television, questions of immigration and diversity in Germany today, issues of political subjectivity, and post-war women’s literature. She has published on Franz Xaver Kroetz, Bertolt Brecht, Grete Weil, minority literature, the asylum debate of the eighties and early nineties, changes in the German media landscape since the arrival of cable, and questions of personal responsibility against the backdrop of individual historical imbrication. Currently, she is working on a book entitled Politics, History, and Feminism: German Women Authors Writing Through Political and Historical Experience.
