Patel, Chandani

Patel, Chandani is currently a Master’s student in the John W. Draper Interdisciplinary Program in Humanities and Social Thought at New York University. Her research interests include postcoloniality and translation, the role of memory and genealogy in novels, and the conceptualization of home by migrants. Through a combination of studies in fields ranging from literature and history to the arts (specifically photography and film), she explores the means of representation employed by citizens to create both individual and national identities during and after colonization and assess how these manifestations of self have been modified by this process. In addition, her research interests focus on how conceptions of home are altered by migration and how these constructions compare with those held by Indians still residing on the subcontinent.
