Usher, M. D.

Usher, M. D., born 1966 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. M. D. Usher (PhD, University of Chicago, 1997) is Associate Professor and Chair of Classics at the University of Vermont (USA). He is author/editor of academic books and articles in the field of Classics, including Homeric Stitchings (Rowman & Littlefield, 1998) and Homerocentones Eudociae Augustae (Teubner, 1999), and has also written children’s picture books — Wise Guy: The Life and Philosophy of Socrates (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2005) and DiOGenes (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, forthcoming in 2008). In 1997 he collaborated with composer John Peel to produce an opera, Voces Vergilianae, for which he wrote the libretto (in Latin) based on the poetry of Virgil.
