Välimäki, Susanna: Currently works as a post-doctoral researcher in an Academy of Finland-funded research project, Contemporary Music, Media, and Mediation. Based at the Department of Music in the University of Jyväskylä (Finland). Has worked in the Department of Musicology at Helsinki University, as a researcher and teacher, in various posts during 1998 – 2005. Recently defended her doctoral dissertation, Subject Strategies in Music: A Psychoanalytic Approach to Musical Signification, at the University of Helsinki. Currently employed full-time as a researcher in Jyväskylä University. Part-time teaching and tutoring for the study program on semiotics, women´s studies and musicology in Helsinki University. Research interests: psychoanalytic criticism, semiotics, film music studies, women´s and men´s studies, queer theory, and post modern engagements with music analysis. Published studies on theoretical and methodological issues, and on Western art music, popular music, and film music. Editor-in-Chief of the Finnish Musicological Journal Musiikki Her current research deals with music in WW II combat films and queer studies in musicology.
