The paper presents a psycho-cultural analysis of best-selling literature. It traces the effects of bestsellers on the reader today - in a society where electronic media rules the public space. It poses and tries to offer some reasonable answers to questions such as: What makes bestsellers so challenging for the reader? What is common for all best-selling genres? Has the formula for writing a successful bestseller changed together with the understanding for modern literature?
Another basic aspect of the analysis is the psychological impact of bestsellers on the reading public with special reference to their possible negative influence on children's psyche.
The positive sides of bestsellers and their place in the society are not ignored.
