ABSTRACT:
Cyber spaces offer the individuals the possibility of choosing who they want to say they are or would like to be. Identity crises seem to have disappeared once people have decided to register for a net forum, group or chat room. What makes online communities so attractive is probably the freedom of the individuals to (re)create themselves, this being first seen in the nicknames used to identify members of such communities. The more interesting the nick, the more complex the type of rapport intended, and the analysis of this rapport in the larger context of personal identity.
