Sandin, Gunnar is Associate Professor in Theoretical and Applied Aesthetics at the Dept of Architecture and Built Environment, Lund University, Sweden. He has after his dissertation in 2004 – about place definitions and their influence on the creation of new places – continued his research in urban studies with a particular theoretical emphasis on semiotics and aesthetics. He is currently a co-leader of two research projects, the first one about international influential forces in planning, architecture and design and the second one, ongoing, about aesthetic replacement strategies in hospital environments. His participation in the large-scale research program CCS Center for Cognitive Semiotics in Lund (head Göran Sonesson) is devoted to the study of urban development as a link between human and material evolution. Partcipated in all IASS-AIS conferences since 1994.
