ABSTRACT:
James Shirley's "The Constant Maid (Love Will Find out the Way)" was
published in 1638 and subsequently reprinted in 1640, 1657, 1661 and 1667.
The publication history is, on the face of it, fairly interesting, as it
covers the time before, during and after the closing of the theatres in
England. I have been commissioned to edit the play for "The Complete Works
of James Shirley" to be published by Oxford University Press, and the kind
of thing I'd like to look at is the economics and aesthetics of quarto play
publication throughout this disruptive period.
