ABSTRACT:
Migration processes in the world community of our days make us face a number of very important and demanding their detailed and all-round consideration questions.
One of the urgent problems for a person migrating from the native country to some other one lies in his/her effort to the fastest self-realization and achieving stable social and economic position in the foreign society. In an attempt to adjust oneself to the strange culture the person has to reconsider his/her “Weltanschauung” to a greater or lesser extent, that is to find oneself under new conditions, to re-invent oneself in many spheres of life.
Process of re-invention usually takes place on two main levels and includes:
- cultural development (taking different views on cultural, ethical, legal norms and standards as well as rules of conduct of the “host” society);
- professional development (acquiring new theoretical knowledge and practical skills to satisfy the requirements of the “host” society).
Cultural development appears to be more complicated and problematic process because it affects basics of a personality, concerns individual principles, values and beliefs determined by national culture, upbringing and education. Successful re-inventing one’s self in foreign culture depends on a number of factors both external and internal.
