ABSTRACT:
Nowadays migration has become of increasing relevance at a global level as every year a great number of people move from one country or locality to another. As a result of this process there are some changes in the demographic situation, social, cultural and political life of the modern society. Being a part of culture and the main means of communication the human language reflects changes going on in the society.
The purpose of this report is to explore the unfolding process of Russia - USA migration and to dwell on the linguistic situation of the Russian language in the US. The report examines changes observed at all language levels - phonetics, morphology, lexica, syntax, associated with the migration of the Russian people to the USA. What is going on with the Russian spoken by the immigrants in the USA? Is it a case of language maintenance or language shift?
