ABSTRACT:
António José da Silva works present some innovations to his age. He uses classical themes and adopts them to his time. His dramatic texts are written in prose, accompanied by musical instruments and acted by puppets. Besides, he was also a deeply original author and became a unique figure in Portuguese literary history.
Our paper aims to show how the classical influence is used, revealing erudition and adopting either the themes or classical theatre resources to his time, picturing and criticizing the society of his age.
