ABSTRACT:

„Linguistics is the history of language" (Hermann Paul) may sound differently when we try to understand the evalution of the Dutch language as it is spoken in the Northern part of Belgium, „Flanders" (the misleading and historically incorrect, but nevertheless official name for the reegion): „language history means political-cultural and social history".

My work focuses o the question: is augmentation of the cultural integration of Flanders and The Netherlands preferable and can it be obtained with a renewed attention Standard Dutch? If yes, is education (primary and secondary schools) the right place to do such and how could and should it be done?
