ABSTRACT:
Our endeavor aims at considering aspects of a specific urban identity, Bucharest, a 19th century Eastern European city of co-existing lifestyles reflected in vestment. Life at the top in an Oriental and Occidental surprising picture of a cosmopolitan city. A genuine, exuberant, sophisticated elegance recreated by means of memoirs, diaries and other documents about a city of original and codified social stratification. The paper offers a viewpoint of the concept of "a city within a city" in which tradition and modernism are melted in a unique, most striking and scenic manner.
