A new synthesis in thinking about thinking, language and culture - bridging the hiatus between the natural sciences and the sciences of social human beings - is the challenge, to which the Vienna Think-Tank ("Wiener Denk-Werkstatt") is now devoting itself.
The task implies bridging uniqueness (of each human being and of each human experience) and sameness/similarity (language and culturally adapted behaviour) in one and the same explanatory scheme.
The provisional assumption pursued by the Vienna Think-Tank is that a combination of three approaches - population thinking, thinking in terms of processes, and thinking in terms of figurations - may allow the development of such a synthesis.
The lecture will report on a first conference under the title "Polylogues I - Towards a New Synthesis in Thinking about Thinking, Language and Culture" (Vienna, 23-25 November 2001).
(You will find more the conference under http://www.vienna-thinktank.at and about the
notion "polylogues" under http://www.vienna-thinktank.at/coordinator/2000_learning.htm).
